Helen Edwards

Helen Edwards is an English born visual and movement artist from the North of England She has painted and danced in nature all her life and over the last 25 years has trained in Japan, Indonesia, Europe and the UK exploring Butoh Dance, Amerta Movement and improvised and environmental dance and art. She has shown work internationally in a range of contexts from outdoor wild spaces, to a range of gallery and dance spaces to the Houses of Parliament. Her work explores the dialogues arising as the bodily senses and imagination encounter aspects of ecology. Having worked in liminal spaces between stone and water for many years.

Her visual work explores resonances of place and time, of water and earth, of time and space, working with line and texture, tone and density, to grasp a feeling of presence, and a process of changing consiousness of a mapping of moments inner wisdom and human understanding in the complexity of the cosmos. Motifs and symbols arise and fall away becoming dissolved in the atmosphere of the image. Helen is fascinated by transience impermanence and the constellations of human experience of earth and earth’s experiencing of humanity.

Helen also has an MA in Integrative Art Psychotherapy (Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education) and has practiced in many settings in Oxford over the last 20 years. She believes in the innate healing ability of the arts and creativity to support and inspired people in their lives.
